Boomer Entrepreneur Academy

 

Entrepreneur Academy, a 4-week course will be offered this fall. The workshop is aimed at adults age 50+ interested in self-employment, career transition, or starting a small business. Participants joining this interactive workshop will explore the leadership and entrepreneurial skills needed for the  21st-century workforce.

 

The course includes; 

 

• Developing a business strategy

• Discovering the ideal customer

• Launching a website

• Boosting social media skills

 

The fall Entrepreneur Academy is an inaugural class and we are elated to offer the program said Judi Bonilla, San Diego Gerontologist and EA program manager. “Our program fills a gap in the hands-on entrepreneurial development for underemployed and unemployed adults in San Diego.”

 

“The academy is the first of its kind in the county to help individuals overcome obstacles and barriers to employment by providing access to education, information, resources, and opportunities focused on business and job development.”

 

The ability of unemployed adults over age 50 to get hired after a layoff has long been identified as a growing and underserved population. Researchers recently reported compared to younger job seekers, older adults receive fewer job offers, search for weeks longer and are ultimately less likely to find re-employment after losing a job.

 

A priority of the Entrepreneur Academy is to provide support and knowledge to help participants get their ideas off the ground and build a network to get advice and assistance after completion of the workshop.

 

The program is being run through OASIS, a nonprofit organization. OASIS is a national education and service organization that brings individuals age 50 plus together for educational and mentorship opportunities.The cost is $56 and a $10 trimester fee may apply.
